Rule 1. The name of the cycloalkane is constructed from the name of the alkane with the same number of carbons by adding the prefix cyclo-.
[1] Cyclopropane
[2] Cyclobutane
[3] Cyclopentane
[4] Cyclohexane
[5] Cycloheptane
Rule 2. In cycloalkanes with a single substituent, the cycle is considered the main chain of the molecule. Numbering the cycle is unnecessary.
[6] Methylcyclopentane
[7] Ethylcyclohexane
[8] Propylcyclooctane
Rule 3. If the cycloalkane has two substituents, they are named in alphabetical order. The cycle is numbered starting from the substituent that comes first in the name.
[9] 1-Bromo-3-methylcyclopentane
[10] 1-Ethyl-2-methylcyclohexane
[11] 1-Bromo-4-chlorocycloheptane
Rule 4. If the ring has three or more substituents, they are named in alphabetical order. The numbering of the cycle is done in such a way that the lowest locators are given to the substituents.
[12] 1-Bromo-2-ethyl-4-methylcyclohexane
[13] 1-Ethyl-2-fluoro-4-methylcyclooctane
